Tarakan Monkey Park

We had been hearing about a cool monkey park here on the island, and a few weeks ago we decided to check it out. For 5000 Rp (about 50 cents) per person we were able to walk around this beautiful forest and view the monkeys. They were swinging freely in the trees above us, not contained by anything but the large fence around the park. Such a beautiful sight!

The entire park had these wooden walkways that were built up several feet off the ground. All of the trees had an incredible above ground root system. Maybe I'll catch a better picture of those next time.

Surrounding the trees was mostly mud, and in the mud lived these funny-looking little creatures called "mudskippers"

"This is what God the Lord says - he who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and all that comes out of it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it: I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.
